THE BIBLE
IS EVERYTHING WRITTEN IN THE BIBLE TRUE?
The Bible says that it is the inspired Word of God and that it reveals the will of God.
Since the Word of God is not just written words on paper, but it is God-breathed carrying His authority, power, and life; when one opens their heart to believe it, God’s life begins working in them.
God’s life is birthed in us as we receive the Word of God. Jesus is the Word of God, as it says in the Gospel of John. We must constantly renew our minds with the Truth in God’s Word and wash our minds clean with the Word of God, receiving life. We are to “…be transformed [into His image] by the renewing of our mind…” (Romans 12:2 NIV).
It is so important for our transformation of God’s life growing in us, that we have a relationship with the Word of God—not just something we read once in a while. We must constantly feed on His Truth. In order to receive the Word in our hearts and have understanding, or in order to renew our minds with Truth, we must spend time reading it, meditating on it, and allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal to us His will through His Word. We never read the Word apart from the Spirit of God who reveals the things of God to us and gives us understanding. So, while the Bible is a collection of books and epistles (letters), some before the birth of Jesus (the Old Testament), and the rest after the birth of Jesus (the New Testament), the message throughout the Bible remains the same. It is a message of a Loving and Good Creator, Savior God that wants to dwell in and among His people, throughout time.
THE BIBLE
Our Lord Jesus Christ made it clear that if a person, group, or Church has a faulty foundation, they will not stand. Without being founded on the Word of God, they will fall when things get difficult. For the people of God to be in unity with His Spirit, we will have to rely on the Word of God—the Bible—His sayings as our foundation that we build on.
“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on the rock. The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of Mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. And its collapse was great!” Matthew 7:24-27 (HCSB)
The Bible says that it is the inspired Word of God and reveals the will of God.
“…and you know that from childhood you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:15-17 (HCSB)
In this verse, the word “inspiration” comes from a Greek word that also means “God breathed.” In other words, the Bible originated from God Himself, and so carries the authority, power and truth of God’s words.
Since the Word of God is not just written words on paper, but it is God-breathed carrying His authority, power, and life; when one opens their heart to believe it, God’s life begins working in them.
“For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the ideas and thoughts of the heart. No creature is hidden from Him, but all things are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give an account.” Hebrews 4:12-13 (HCSB)
God’s life is birthed in us as we receive the Word of God. The life of Jesus Christ is in the Word of God.
“since you have been born again—not of perishable seed but of imperishable—through the living and enduring word of God.For All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like a flower of the grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord endures forever. And this is the word that was preached as the gospel to you.” 1 Peter 1: 23-25 (HCSB)
It is important for us to have a relationship with the Word of God. In order to receive the Word in our hearts and have understanding, or in order to renew our minds with Truth, we must spend time reading it, meditating on it, and allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal to us His will through His Word.
“Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2 (HCSB)
“So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17 (HCSB)
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you.” John 14:26 (NRSV)
While the Bible is a collection of books and epistles (letters), some before the birth of Jesus (the Old Testament), and the rest after the birth of Jesus (the New Testament), the message of a Loving and Good Creator, Savior God that wants to dwell in and among His people remains the same, throughout.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 (NRSV)
